Life throws a lot at you everyday. Stress is inevitable and it can get the best of you. Fortunately you can fight back and there are many things you can do to minimize and cope with stress and live a healthier and happier life by following these steps:

  • Getting enough sleep can help you handle stress better, try to aim for at least 7 hours each night.
  • Eat Well.  A well-balanced and healthy diet boosts your energy and mood which in turn helps you cope better when stressful situations arise. You owe it to your body to nourish it with nutritious and healthy food.
  • Release Those Endorphins. Regular exercise makes you feel better, simple really! Aim for 30 minutes, three times a week.

  • Breathe! It’s not always possible, but when you can try to give yourself 15 minutes a day to sit quietly and relax; breathe deeply and put things in perspective. This can do wonders for your stress levels.
  • Turn Off. Technology has made our life a lot easier in most ways, but it can also get exhausting to always be online and accessible. Try to give yourself time away from your phone, computer and internet in general.
  • Have some fun. Find something you enjoy doing—reading, spending time with family or friends, playing with your dog—and incorporate that into your regular life.
  • Don’t rush things. Be sure to allow enough time for whatever you are doing, hurrying through something can create stress.
  • Spend time with your friends. Sometimes all we need is a few minutes to decompress with a buddy; social support can make all the difference.
  • See the sunny side. One key way to beat stress is by focusing on the positive and not giving into negative thoughts.
  • Schedule some relaxation. Take some “ME” time even if it’s just 15 minutes with a cup of tea and a good book…or your could always call your favourite massage therapist for a nice relaxation massage!
